Enzymes for sample preparation are bought by a very small number of very specific people, and the useful question is not how big the market is but how many named seats sit inside it. This map lays those out: the US lab segments that consume hydrolysis, molecular and pathogen detection chemistry, who signs inside each one, and roughly how many there are. It describes the market rather than your business, and there is nothing to buy at the end of it.
Clinical and pain management toxicology labs
The closest fit for sample preparation chemistry, because hydrolysis sits inside a validated method that gets audited rather than improvised. Switching is a validation project, not a purchase, which makes the segment slow to win and very slow to lose.

Genomics: core facilities and reagent manufacturers
Two very different buyers under one product line. A university core facility buys in small volume on the recommendation of a scientist, and a diagnostics or kit manufacturer buys enzymes as a raw material under supply agreements and change control. The second is a much longer sale and a much larger one, and it is bought by supply chain rather than by the bench.
Who signs: core facility director, principal investigator, and on the manufacturing side the VP of research and development, sourcing lead and supplier quality manager.

Where the openings are

Three product lines, three unrelated buyers, one company name. Toxicology is bought by a lab director inside a validated method. Genomics is bought by a bench scientist at a core facility or by a sourcing lead at a manufacturer. Food safety is bought by quality assurance at a processor or a contract lab. In practice one channel tends to keep walking back through whichever door opened first, and the other two stay shut.

The trigger is the method change, not the calendar. A new instrument, a re-accreditation, a lost technical lead, a turnaround time problem, a cost per sample review. Each one reopens the reagent question, and each one is visible from outside if something is watching a few thousand labs for it. Waiting to be found means arriving after the validation has already started.

Distance is a distribution problem, not a credibility one. In this market a manufacturer based outside the country its buyers sit in typically reaches those labs through distribution and conference presence. Both channels work, and both reach labs that were already looking. Neither reaches the lab director who has never heard the name and has a hydrolysis problem this quarter.

The named seat is the whole game here. These are not companies, they are a few thousand identifiable people: lab directors, section supervisors, method development leads. That is a small enough universe to work properly by name and large enough that no one person can. It is a mechanical job, and it is the one we build, run for a fixed period, then hand over.
Built from public registries, counts banded deliberately. Lab counts describe registered facilities rather than buying organizations, so a network operating several sites appears more than once, and a single lab may hold more than one registration. Specialty is recorded as a field rather than as a category, so the toxicology-active subset of the wider lab population is smaller than the totals above. Core facilities, manufacturers and in-house quality labs are not separately enumerated and are described rather than counted.
